Sloppy Joes
Not much to say about this oldie but goodie dish - other than making it from scratch blows away the flavor profile of some canned sloppy joe product. Try it this way and you'll never go back!
Ingredients
-
2 tablespoons of butter
-
2 1/2 pounds ground beef
-
1/2 large onion, diced
-
1 green bell pepper, diced
-
5 cloves of garlic, minced

1 1/2 cups ketchup
-
2 tablespoons mustard
-
1 cup water
-
2 tablespoons brown sugar
-
2 teaspoons chili powder, more if you like
-
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional
-
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
-
2 tablespoons tomato paste
-
Salt and pepper, to taste

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 40minutes
Yield: 8 servings
Directions
-
In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, drain, and then add to a large pot.
-
In the same skillet, sauté the onion and green pepper, and garlic for 4-5 minutes. Add to the pot of beef.
-
Stir in the ketchup, mustard, water, brown sugar, chili powder and red pepper flakes, Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. Add some salt and pepper to taste.
-
Let simmer until you reach the consistency desired, adding water if too thick. Serve on hamburger buns or your choice of rolls.
-
If you want to try something different, go half and half with some ground pork!
-
Never use a canned sloppy joe sauce again!
